BRYK Group were commissioned to move Now Finance from a traditional co-located data centre setup to a cloud platform that provided greater performance, scalability, flexibility and cost effectiveness.
There were complexities due to the high transaction volume, requirements for minimal down time, legislative compliance and strong disaster recovery requirements. In addition, there were multiple 3rd party integrations and the need to provide secure public facing front-end access.
BRYK Group designed a cloud-based hosting architecture and future cost model. We:
L
Designed a Secure Virtual Private Cloud base solution aligned with requirements utilises reserved instances to optimise cost.
L
Performed production verification testing, penetration and DR testing, elastic load testing.
L
Built monitoring and availability services to allow for 99.999999 uptime.
L
Commissioned AWS platform for 20+ elastic cloud computing instances applying load balancing, RDS and Storage services.
L
Migrated all data, applications and 3rdparty integrations to new the platform.
L
Decommissioned old platform, including secure/safe data removal/disposal.
This resulted in an enterprise grade platform that provided 24 x 7 availability, greater scalability and flexibility to Now Finance.
The VRGF funds therapeutic and financial counselling services for people experiencing harm from gambling. The VRGF engaged IBSA to implement a case management system, utilising our BEACON platform, for its Gambler’s Help services.
L
We adopted a centralised system to manage referrals to the counselling services from multiple sources, including a dedicated helpline that operates 24/7.
L
The client registration process quickly searches for local service providers based on a client’s geographic location.
L
The system notifies a local service provider when it receives a new referral, ensuring a counsellor is assigned to the client and an appointment made in a timely manner.
L
The system is flexible and able to accommodate each local service provider’s internal registration process without compromising data quality or creating extra administration.
L
Counsellors record all client activities and case notes against the appropriate program.
L
Service providers track progress against their KPIs, enabling the VRGF to monitor performance against contractual obligations and provide regular reports to government.
BRYK Group was commission to develop a case management system tailored for use across three separate entities within the DHHS (the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, the Mental Health Complaints Commissioner, and the Office of the Health Services Commissioner). These systems had to manage the handling of customer complaints and also investigations into reportable deaths and formal, minister-initiated inquiries. The projects were implemented in stages and are currently in live, production use in two of these entities (the OHSC implementation is on hold pending internal change control within that organisation).
Characteristics of the solution:
L
Completely web-based system
L
Support most of the four Component Group requirements using out of the box functionality.
L
Industry leading forms technology to collect dispute and customer details.
L
Easy to use portal components like document libraries and lists are supported out of the box.
L
Enterprise grade search capability to find cases, associated documents and customers.
L
In-built reporting and workflow features.
L
Support of 3rd party integration using web services.
L
Ability to support both internal users and external parties.
L
Out of the box auditing features to track all user’s actions.
L
Compliance with WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards.
L
Audited compliance with Victorian Government information security requirements.
BRYK Group were commissioned to develop an online collaboration platform to reduce administrative burden on principals in small Victorian government schools. This platform would give them access to a Regional Centre of Best-Practice for doing school management activities.
The complexities of the project came from the volume & diversity of processes to be automated, integration with DET core systems and the variety of users to be considered that had minimal training.
L
Project managed in an agile way to ensure a more iterative process.
L
Used a unique mix of technologies: a Service Request Engine with powerful workflow capabilities, a Knowledge Engine, a facility to deliver Alerts & Notifications and integration to existing systems.
L
Used tools to support contextual enquiry and evaluation across multiple cycles feeding into requirement aggregation tools.
L
Conducted intensive user research and workshops, form pattern development, prototypes, usability testing including workshops, UI design, UX design, style guides.
BRYK Group deployed a team of five on site for six months. They:
L
Wrote all the code
L
Conducted intensive user research and workshops, form pattern development, prototypes, usability testing including workshops, UI design, UX design, style guides.
L
Employed a unique methodology that integrated User Experience Consulting, Information Architecture, Visual Design and Collaboration.
L
Comprehensive suite of forms: approximately 100 administrative activities that were compatible with DET processes.
This collaboration between BRYK Group, DET and a reference group of school users resulted in 100% take-up.
“The LAB is sensational and makes a significant difference to how I run my school. The new system is making this process even smoother and more effective. It is refreshing to be involved in a project which has vision and purpose.”
The vast majority of crimes in Victoria are sentenced by the Magistrates’ Court. Until now, it has been difficult for the public to know about patterns of sentencing in that court. In 2013, BRYG Group build SACStat, a free online tool that provides detailed but accessible information for over 430 different types of offences.
Below the Honourable Robert Clarke, Attorney-General, Minister for Finance and Minister for Industrial Relations comments on the solution.
The product utilised the latest technologies supported by Open Source components where possible to deliver the greatest value-for-money and the BRYK Group Quality Methodology was adopted in the delivery of this project which resulted in fast release cycles and few reported defects.
SACStat allows users to view graphs and tables displaying historical sentencing data for over 430 offence types heard in the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria. It enabled cleaned and checked data to be publicly accessible through a simple and intuitive graphical interface. In doing so, it achieved two vital public benefits. It made sentencing:
L
more consistent, because for the first time it makes it possible for each magistrate to see how other magistrates (of which there are more than 100) are sentencing for similar offences; and
L
more transparent to journalists, victims of crime, offenders and the general public.
Below Professor Arie Freiberg discusses the importance of the SACStat solution.
